Surfadelica was born in November 2006 when guitarrist Carlos Nishimiya showed his demos to two friends with the intention of forming a surf music trio shaped like the classic 60's combos but a modern attitude and ideas, new influences and trying to expand the surf music vocabulary.
Those friends Carlos invited were JC Goes Rock on drums and Mauricio Guedesson on bass.
Since the beginning of the group it was decided that Surfadelica would only start to play live with a record under their name.
The first set of recordings took place in December 2006. The first songs to be put on tape were "Surf Me To The Moons Of Saturn" and the instrumental cover version of the Kaiser Chief's "The Modern Way", recorded exclusively for a Cordelia Records compilation still waiting for a release. With "Surf Me To The Moons Of Saturn" we were able to open our MySpace profile.
In February 2007 Surfadelica entered the studio again to recorded a second batch of songs: "Questionable Navigation", "Levitation" and "Roswell". "Questionable Navigation" was chosen to be part of "Brazilian Surf A-Go-Go, The Attack Of The Tiki Waves, Vol.1", released exclusively on the vinyl LP format by Portuguese label Groovie Records in July 2007. The LP is a carefully chosen batch of 20 brazilian surf bands demonstrating the strength of the surf music scene in the country.
The third series of recordings produced "Falling Into The Heart Of The Sun", "Quasimoto", "Freakin' Out Surfin' In" and "Trying To Get Back Home". It took place in June 2007. In August Surfadelica recorded "Ocean", a Sebadoh song for a Brazilian tribute on Overdrive Records called "Tributoh". This compilation is yet to be released.
In October/November more sessions. The results were "Nobody's Fault", "View From The Plateau", "Overdrive Over Time" and another new one, "Flowing Through The Purple Sea" that were slated for a future project. In December the producer Carlos and engineer Sandro Garcia performed a lot of overdubs, remixes and corrections on the finished masters.
Finally the disc was ready in January 2008. In the end "Trying To Get Back Home" was left off the album to be released in the next disc with "Flowing Through The Purple Sea" in its place.
Also in January 2008 Surfadelica recorded one more track, the Beatles' "Why Don't We Do It In The Road" intended for a "White Album" virtual Brazilian tribute. It should be out by mid-2008.
The year of 2008 must be dedicated to promoting the record. At the same time there are new songs to be rehearsed and recorded. Many of the original demos still wait for the Surfadelica treatment. Also Surfadelica were invited to contribute exclusive tracks to more compilations.
Surfadelica's history is only beginning...
